Ribbon Striped Sapele thins have a warm reddish-brown colour with a strong, repeating stripe figure produced by its interlocked grain. The ribbon effect is most visible on quartersawn faces.

Sapele is a great alternative for Genuine Mahogany!

Sapele gets used for all types of woodworking including furniture, cabinet making, instrument making, and woodturning. This rot resistant wood is also a great choice for exterior applications. When finishing Sapele, you may want to consider a durable hardwax-oil finish such as Osmo Polyx-Oil. An oil finish would especially accentuate figured Sapele which we are lucky to source on occasion.

In order to offer more protective packing for shipping - our lengths are often 1/4" less than sizes listed. Need a wider width or longer length? Please email us for a quote. Custom millwork charges will apply.

I bought 1 piece (thin) of Ribbon Striped Sapele, 1 piece of Bloodwood, and 2 pieces of Mahogany. Excellent grain pattern on the Sapele - looked like it was handpicked, and I got the best. The Bloodwood - absolutely gorgeous colouring. The Mahogany is also very good - straight, good grain, will make nice gifts for friends and relatives. I am very pleased with the products and people at KJP.

I bought one 48” ribbon striped sapele board. I made a charcuterie board and four 4” coasters out of it and they turned out great. My only reason for the four stars is the board wasn’t straight, it was close, but not enough. I had to do a little work myself. In any case, it was great and I’ve just ordered 11 maple boards for my next project.
