S4S Lumber
Who are they for? These are ideal for those who aren’t equipped with the necessary tools to flatten and straighten boards.
The term "surfaced" or "dressed" refers to a piece of wood that has been milled. To achieve the necessary dimensions, we select a larger board to work from. Both faces and edges are then surfaced so you can be assured that the board is flat and straight. These boards are available in specific sizes.
For example: 3/4” x 5-1/4” x 24”
Rough Cut Lumber
Who are they for? These are ideal for those who enjoy working with machinery or hand tools to mill their own boards.
We use this term to describe boards that require additional milling. Rough cut lumber have been run through the planer to show the grain however they have not been dressed. You will need to mill both faces and edges. Rough cut lumber are available in specific lengths with varying widths.
For example: 4/4 x (5-6”) x 24”
You will receive a board that is just shy of an inch thick, with a width in the range of 5-6”, and is 24” long.

All the S4S lumber I’ve purchased from KJP has been of the highest quality. The people at the store and answering the customer service line have ALL been exceptionally helpful and knowledgeable.
Easy to order, quick pick up and boards were exact as ordered. Great shop and experience.
Poplar is my preffered choice for painter projects and this is some of the best I’ve had. The price is fair, and the offered sizes are plentiful.
enjoyed the speed that I received my order and the wood is looking good I am happy with your services keep up the good work guys
This is a high quality product for a fair price . Shipment came by courier and arrived in pristine condition , I will organ again.
I have purchased 100’s of poplar planks 9 1\4” x 23 7\8 and use every square inchs for my projects. About 5% of these boards had mechanical handling scars and had to be sent to other then intended projects. Some were a little cupped, some a little warped but nothing that can’t be fixed with a couple of tools (planer flatmaster ). I can usually get to my goal of flat 17mm board. So 95% fully satisfied and feel like a kid in a toy store when I go there. Selection, quality and outstanding service.
S4S Poplar Lumber
Great boards this time without any blemishes. Good packaging.
Really nice poplar 4s. Using it for guitar builds. Price point works to advantage.
The lumber is beautiful, smooth, and I find myself using poplar for more projects lately. S4S lumber, by definition, should be square, flat, and ready to use in a project. That’s what we pay for. These particular pieces were not that, sadly, as all four boards needed extra planing and sanding to achieve the required flatness and edge squareness to the faces. I’ll continue to order from KJP, as for the most part, their lumber is top notch!
excellent
I don’t have any store that sells hardwood within 2-3 hours of my house so I thought I would give this a try. I was in no rush. In fact, I am starting the face frame of my cabinets tomorrow so this package arrived just in time. I was worried about the condition of the pieces as they were shipped to the west coast but am impressed by how well they were packaged. I would do this again in a heartbeat
S4S Poplar Lumber
The board was the exact dimensions promised, it was perfectly straight and square, with the gorgeous grain pattern of quality poplar. I’m very, VERY pleased!
review
Order was perfect and these guys treat you right. Thanks KJP!
The order was.processed quickly. The wood pieces were perfect for my project. Will not hesitate to order again from this company.
The S4S was absolutely perfect.
I found KJP by chance several months ago and I am very pleased at the quality and price point. I’ve made several orders already and intend to use them again.
Very happy with the wood I received. Shipping was quick and the wood looks great. I will purchase again!
Received my order very quickly. For being rough cut lumber it’s very clean wood. I will be ordering from them again
While some people think poplar is only good for the insides of drawers or for items that will be painted or stained, I like the interesting colors. I received several boards with that fun greenish color (that will fade to brown over time). I'm rethinking what I'll use this wood for because I want this to be used for more of a showpiece than for a book case that will be hidden inside a closet.
This is my third delivery form KJP Hardwoods where the selection of my order by staff was excellent for rough cut wood. In fact the the lumber needed very little milling base on the store's pretreatment for " rough cut". I will not hesitate to order again on line!
This is not my first order from KJP and like the previous experiences, I was not disappointed with the quality of the wood I got. Received the exact amount ordered as well (40 board feet in this instance), nice uniform size that was easy to mill and came out looking great after milling was complete. Thanks KJP Select Hardwoods, keep up the good work.
Recently ordered some custom 1/4” thins and they’re perfect! Wood looks amazing. Shipping was prompt.
This is the only place for hardwoods!
Great wood-- just wish you were a little closer and shipping was less expensive
Very nice shipping. Arrive on time. Poplar was perfect for my application.
The package was delivered in a timely matter. The boards were perfect for rough cut lumber. I will be ordering again. Pricing is very fair considering the quality of the boards. I am glad I found you on social media. AF
I’m building a plant stand for window. Poplar is great wood to work with and KJP wood is so well prepared. I live in Toronto and the wood was very well packaged and shipped. Thanks KJP
This is exactly what I was looking for to build some drawers for a new kitchen.
Its’s convenient to be able to source excellent quality wood when you’re lacking
milling capailities'
The shipping was quick and the lumber is in excellent condition and quality.
