Padauk wood is one of our most popular exotic woods!
You don’t get much more bang for your buck as you do with African Padauk. It’s relatively inexpensive (for an import), looks great and it has a light, pleasant odor when worked. This species also takes on a wicked shine when worked with high-angle planes or scrapers. This is a fantastic choice if you are new to exotics so have fun with it.
The heartwood ranges from a light pink/orange to a dark red/brown. The colours are at their most vibrant when the boards are freshly worked but will change to a dark brown/purple colour over time. It doesn’t take much sanding or scraping to get the original colour back.
It works well with hand and power tools, but beware, the grain can be interlocked which can lead to tearout if your tools aren’t sharp. You should have no problems gluing this wood or having finish stick which makes it a great beginner exotic. It also smells nice with a light, aromatic quality. Fair warning, you will have colourful dust everywhere so don’t hesitate to wear a mask.
In order to offer more protective packing for shipping - our lengths are often 1/4" less than sizes listed. Need a wider width or longer length? Please email us for a quote. Custom millwork charges will apply.
We will provide you with a 1/4" thick x 3" wide or 4-3/4" wide x 24" long, high quality thin board! These boards are flat, straight, and ready for sanding.

Received my fourth order inside a year. I think over order I receive is better than the last. Couldn’t be happier. The stock is beautiful, well packed and right priced. Thanks KJP.
Beautiful wood. Flawless
Arrived in good time, well protected, very happy with the quality
Have made many purchases with KJP Select Hardwoods and have never been disappointed.
Looks great
Top quality exotic hardwood. Very satisfied!
This was my first time ordering wood online, so I was a little skeptical. I just received my first order and am very pleased with the quality of the boards selected. I just made my second order.
Very pleased with the order, beautiful wood. Thank you.
I received two thick pieces of similar dimension as part of a 10 bfu package. Both are intensely red with beautiful and moderately subtle grain. Excellent.
Je suis vraiment content de tout vos produits et c’est pour cette raison que j’achète chez vous.
Bonne et heureuse année à tout vos employés(es)
As I ordered perfect.
really a nice wood for keepsake boxes and the like, polishes up to a really nice glossy finish, just be aware the dust if not ventilated out of the shop kinda gives everything a red hue.
Good quality wood well trued to size.
Love the grain
the padauk looks nice but I noticed on one of the lumber peace had a bit of a bend in the middle nothing that i can not with but over all it looks good
Really nice wood!

This is exactly what I wanted.
A big thank you to the person who chose it because it was extremely beautiful
This is a very good cut but it will take some sanding
Very good quality and better than expected
Very good quality
It looks great. But when I ripped it down to3/4 or close thickness. A few boards broke on me.Split right down the middle.
Hi Donald,
Thank you for sharing your experience with our Padauk lumber. We apologize for the boards breaking during the ripping process. We are always happy to replace or refund lumber that is problematic - but we need to be informed so we can help. Please reach out to us if you need any further assistance with your purchase.
Best, Matt
Folks, I rarely give reviews but recently I have purchased quite a lot of hardwood from KJP to make Christmas presents for those dear to me. Hands down the quality is Top Shelf and beats ALL of the other suppliers I have ordered from. I can explain it better relative to my favorite restaurant…it’s all about consistency. I order my favorite steak and I know it’s going to be amazing every single Time! I’m a USAF retired guy in my 60’s now and have some time to do woodworking again. I live in Florida and our selection of hardwood is not very good at all. It doesn’t compare with the wood in the northern USA and Canada.
The woods I have received have been exactly as described, packaged perfectly and have arrived amazingly fast!
I always test finishes on samples before selecting a wood for a project. These KJP thins are the perfect size for finish testing.
Very very nice
thx
Was expecting 48” long. Was 47 7/8” long. Asked why? They said all lumber is 1/8 to 1/4” shorter to fit in a 48” box. It was noted on their website that that’s what they did. I didn’t notice that or come across that info when I ordered. I had to order more material and order it longer. Amazing how it came in a longer box for the same shipping price.
Also too, was not rough cut lumber. Was planed on all four sides. Spent a lot of money learning that lesson.
I ordered the Padauk for making acoustic guitar bridges blanks, because it transfer sounds as ebony and adds colour to an acoustic guitar. The piece i received was of first quality and is the perfect thickness (1/2 inch) to shape to a final fine bridge.
4/4 Rough Cut Padauk Lumber Pack
Amazing quality thins
Seems like high quality lumber
High quality as usual, fast delivery. The padauk is very nice, hard to disapprove with this specie. The cherry and Spanish cedar I ordered also were nice pieces.
Beautiful lumber!!! I will be ordering much more😊👍😊
