Hickory wood is among the hardest and strongest of woods native to North America. On average, Hickory is denser, stiffer, and harder than either White Oak or Hard Maple.
The heartwood is light to medium brown featuring a reddish hue and the sapwood is a pale yellow-brown. The grain is generally straight with occasional wave.
Tool handles, wheel spokes, baseball bats, and flooring; hickory is commonly used where strength or shock-resistance is important.
8/4 Hickory Lumber
Bay da jumpin jaysus they sent me over the hardest wood I ever held in my hand. Thick and grainy, hard and dark with a girth 1 5/8". And that manly scent? Jeepers.
Always good service, exactly what I asked for!
The wood looks great. Very happy with the quick shipment. Will definitely be buying more wood from KJP Selecy hardwood.
Excellent products and excellent service! I will keep ordering
Grain was beautiful with only a very small split on one end well outside of project measurements. Considering that it was rough cut there was just the slightest bow which was easy to joint and plane with almost no loss of thickness.
Hickory came similar dimensions. Skip planed. Will require minimal work to prep it for projects.
I'm very satisfied.
Beautiful wood, can't wait till I figure out what to do with it.
I purchased several rough cut long hickory planks for bookshelves (tired of shelves sagging under the weight of my hardcover collections). The 4 boards I purchased fit the bill. A little trimming on the tablesaw and some sanding to 220 grit, these are a beautiful addition to my home office.
Excellent quality. Far better than I thought would come. Better than if I had selected them myself
These rough cut lumber packs (actually the wood isn’t all that rough - just needs some sanding or scraping) are the best deal around. I prefer native hardwoods, so the hickory 4’ lengths was just the ticket. Every piece was milled straight with no warps or twists and minimal to no wain.
My last order was several rough cut 4/4 boards of varying species. Just a little jointing, planing and re-sawing and they are beautiful and perfect for my box making students! Another great order.
The board arrived quickly. The dimensions are accurate, and the milling required will be about as you'd expect with rough cut wood. It was free of any major cracks or voids. In my case, I use hickory mainly in place of plywood for certain shop-made tools (mallet heads, tool handles, etc.) and jigs, as for a hardwood it's inexpensive, dense, and is easily worked.
