African Blackwood Turning Square
We will provide you with a high quality African Blackwood turning square in the dimensions of your choice. This blank has already been kiln dried and is ready to be "turned" into your next great project! We recommend using Honey Bee's Natural Wood Cream for a long lasting and food safe finish.
Please note that some of these pieces could have a small amount of white sap wood on edges.
We can sometimes accommodate a larger blank than our standard sizes. Please email us for availability and a quote.
Dimensions may vary +/- 1/8" as we often prefer to lightly skip dress the turning blanks to reveal grain & colour. Some blanks may also come with waxed faces and ends.
Courtesy of The Wood Database:
Often completely black, with little or no discernible grain. Occasionally slightly lighter, with a dark brown or purplish hue. The pale yellow sapwood is usually very thin, and is clearly demarcated from the darker heartwood.

Excellent wood quality bought 2 just incase one was flawed and both were perfect very happy with the purchase
I've cut this stock down and have been using it as an accent colour in my wood Projects. Looks great!
I will definitely by buying more.
Nice wood
very nice
Two voids with at least 3 worm holes
Haven't got my project turned yet but the delivery was practically instant! Very happy with the service.
Staff was great over the phone and exceptionally helpful so I'll be ordering from you again in the future. Thanks!
Beautiful wood just the right size for my needs.
Have not used it yet. Looks good.
I haven't done much with them yet, but for the couple I've already done, they turned out phenomenally. I would (wood, lol) recommend these. The only complaint I have has nothing to do with the pieces provided, and everything to do with the properties of African Blackwood itself. I needed to use a hacksaw to cut it effectively, and a carbide endmill to carve channels. The wood behaves more like metal than wood when using woodworking tools, but more like wood than metal when using metalworking tools. Just a warning, so if you have the tools to work with it, have fun.
I’ve ordered Blackwood twice so far from kjb and have to say not disappointed good stuff!
Part of my purchased order, and let me begin by saying it is gorgeous wood, the best I've seen in the online wood market so far.
Best wood turning squares I've gotten in a while.
This wood is really nice. It is straight grained and very dark, great for finials. Will be my go to place for African Blackwood.
Absolutely stunning!
There was some minor flaws in the wood but no more than is normal for this species.
Extremely hard material but if you are thread chasing it gives a very good, well defined thread. Polishes nicely but does not glue well, at least with wood glue. I have yet to try it with epoxy or superglue.
Absolutely excellent Blackwood turns like a dream, lovely finish. I am hoping to contact them to see if they can provide longer wider pieces. Very pleased with what I have. Very quickly shipped too. Great store, bit of a candy store for the wood worker!
African Blackwood is a beautiful wood to work with. With sharp tools, the dense wood peels off in ribbons and can be polished to a glass-like shine. Drilling the wood requires patience but the end result is wonderful.
This wood is so heavy and looks absolutely gorgeous. I recieved my order quickly and in near perfect condition. Very happy with it.
KJP was able to send to me some pieces (for knife handles) with minimal sapwood at my request. I'm pleased that they are able to supply African Blackwood from within Canada and the blanks they selected are perfect for my needs.
Very happy with my order excellent wood
I was very happy with my order, both blocks came with no defects and ahead of schedule, this wood is great to work with as well (for me being knife handles)
I was very pleased with the African Blackwood I purchased from KJP, and can't wait to use it!
I ordered some exotic wood online form KJP and when I got my unit it had a defect. I reached out the support and they reviewed my situation and replaced the unit at their cost very quickly. I do wood work as a hobby, but I manage call centers and support for a major appliance company in Canada and I have to say that KJP has superior customer service. You can trust KJP with your wood supply needs. Thank you Karen for caring so much about us your customers. Jean-Louis Marin
I had bought a pen blank that had some splits, but still likely workable. Understandable, it happens to the best of stores. I wrote a review mentioning that and in my next order they made it right. I've already had great experiences with their customer service, but this is above what I had expected. I may be on the other side of the country but this is my go to store for exotic hardwoods.
I posted a review lately where a wasn’t pleased with the wood provided to me when doing curb side pickup. The very next day I got a call from KJP asking me how they could make things right. And the did on the spot. They were amazing and really did care about the customer. I change my 3 stars to 5 stars for their care and service.
